Apple launches New iPhone and More at Keynote

Two Days ago, Apple held a keynote in their headquarters releasing several new products including the all important new iPhone: The 4S. Personally speaking, I was not disappointed with the new launch. Just because it looks exactly like the iPhone 4 does not mean that the internals of the device are not better and that is exactly what happened in this case:

• Dual Core Processor
• 2X faster CPU
• Increased Graphics Performance
• Siri (see below)
• iO5
• Fixed antennae issue
• Better Call quality
• 1080p Video Recording
• Apple also released iOS 5 which has been in BETA for some time now. iOS 5 boasts several new features to enhance the experience you have with your iOS device whether that be an iPad, iPod or iPhone. 

The most exciting feature in my opinion was the launch of their new BETA voice recognition app, Siri. Siri is an "intelligent personal assistant" which helps make everyday tasks like sending text messages, setting alarms and checking whether you need an umbrella or not a whole lot easier.

In the demonstration, Siri was asked: "Do I need a raincoat today?"

The weather for that particular day was rainy and so Siri replied:
"Sure looks like it!"

Watching the keynote, I was amazed at the vast knowledge of this app. "Remind me to call Mum after work" would be replied to as "I have set the alarm for when you finish work to call your mother".

This is not just what you ask, it is how you ask it. Instead of asking: "What is the weather like today?" you could say "Could you give me the hourly forecast please?" and the reply would be the same: "The weather is as follows..."

Apple have done a great job on this feature and I think this will shape the way that we interact with technology in future.


Apple made several other improvements to devices such as the iPod Nano which was launched (improved version) at the keynote and now available for purcase. The iPod touch was also upgraded to include a White version and will be launched along with several other products and services on the 12th of October 2011.

iCLOUD, Apple's cloud-based service will also launch on the 12th of October. It allows you to sync several  things like your iTunes library across all of your devices.
